Process Engineer (Blow Mold) Job Description
Primary Purpose of the Job:
Define and roll out new or improvement process. Provide escalation for process deficiencies, establish, and maintain process implementation and efficiency metrics. Rollout and training of process improvements, maintain internal training records. Audit process adherence metrics, maintain the action plan to manage continuous improvement action required to improve key metrics. Technical resource person for overall plant process environment ensuring product cost effectiveness & process maps, control plans, FMEA & other documents to support part approval, test evaluates & specifics product components, & work for continuous improvement & training for manufacturing process equipment. Responsible for Preventative and Predictive maint of Blow mold operations.
Specific Duties:
· Assume a leadership role in improving productivity (cavitation, cycle time and uptime) and reducing scrap
· Establishing optimum molding processes through machine, mold and process capability studies
· Establishing process controls and maintaining certified molding processes.
· Use Design of Experiments to troubleshoot and optimize processes.
· Generating standard work instructions, setups and operational parameters.
· Align Oversee process technicians and provide training to process technicians, supervisors and operators.
· Initiating problem-solving and process enhancement projects and direct staff to support Quality & production goals both at plant and corporate level.
· Assume a leadership role in facilitating corporate directives, starting up of new molds and products in the plant.
· Participate in special projects on an as needed basis. Participate in corrective action teams for customer complaints or other improvement activities.
· Develop and implement appropriate statistical tools to measured and improve outgoing quality.
· Evaluate and offer key design inputs regarding post-molding parts handling systems.
· Develop and document key mold design criteria in concert with Production and Tooling
· Provide key inputs to Quality and R & D on product design specifications and tolerances.
· Assist with Quality audits as needed and any other special projects as assigned.
· Ability to work with and making suggestions to mold shops to improve mold.
· Must be willing to accept overtime and be available for call-ins
· Supervise hourly (UAW) personnel as needed.
· UNDERSTAND AND COMPLY WITH SAFETY RULES AND REGULATION.
Required Training, Knowledge and Experience:
· Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with Plastic Blow Molding operations and Engineering preferred multilayer fuel tank extrusion with Kautex machines.
· Experience and knowledge in PWDS and other parison control tools.
· Able to read and interpret Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic, Mold drawings and Blueprints.
· Basic familiarity and operations understanding of ABB robots – prefer experience with ABB robots with ability to make adjustments,
· Hands-on, self-directed, focused individuals with experience in leading Blow Molding teams.
· Proven ability to set, meet and exceed deadlines and operational goals.
· Computer proficient and fluent with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project and able to manipulate data using software tools.
Critical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
· Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
· Works within an automotive components manufacturing floor and office setting.
· Work weekends and off shifts as needed.
· Work more than normal business hours on occasion.
